Spanish A Level
A Level Spanish will develop your knowledge and skills acquired at GCSE level. The course will enable you to use Spanish in a wide range of contexts and gain a useful insight into another culture. Through the study of a modern foreign language, you will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of, and reflect upon, various aspects of contemporary society. Work experience abroad in your final year is also an option.
Your fluency in both the written and spoken language will develop, as will your ability to understand the language in both the spoken and written form.
AQA Spanish A Level Course Outline
Paper 1: Listening, Reading and Writing
What's assessed?
Aspects of society; artistic culture; multiculturalism; aspects of political life; grammar and translation.
How is it assessed?
Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes worth 100 marks in total and 50% of A Level
Paper 2: Writing
What's assessed?
One text and one film or two texts from the list set in the specification. Grammar.

How is it assessed?
Written exam (two essays): 2 hours worth 80 marks in total and 20% of A Level
Paper 3: Speaking
What's assessed?
Individual research project on one of four sub-themes i.e. aspects of society or artistic culture or multiculturalism in society or aspects of political life in society.
How is it assessed?
Oral exam: presentation plus discussion: 21–23 minutes (including 5 minutes preparation time), worth 60 marks in total and 30% of A Level.
Entry Requirements
Grade 6 or above in GCSE Spanish.

Spanish goes well with any other subject.
What degree/higher education courses and careers can I progress to?
You can use the skills and qualifications gained to access career opportunities both at home and abroad.
The course is ideal if you want to specialise in language specific careers, such as teaching, translating or interpreting (in both the public and private sector) or if you are interested in the travel and tourism industry.
Certain languages lend themselves well to certain career choices such as engineering, science and the finance sector. For many other careers, being proficient in a language broadens career prospects. On a wider level, anyone who wishes to travel for either work or pleasure would benefit from A Level language.
